Key Stage Two is an important time for children in their schooling, as the students are learning new skills and concepts whilst consolidating others. At this level of education, the students are moving towards becoming more independent, self-disciplined and organised learners.
The department offers a wealth of very experienced, talented and committed staff, from a range of nationalities. Their knowledge of the British curriculum is excellent. All staff plan thoroughly, using long term, medium term and short term planning. Differentiation is also an integral part of the planning and teaching process in this Key Stage. It accommodates the specific learning needs of individuals within the class, offering a personalised education. Assessment for learning is also a key aspect to ensuring that all our students reach their potential,
Planning creative activities to excite and deepen children’s understanding of the different aspects of the KS2 curriculum is a key feature within the department. Teachers build into their plans opportunities for a number of cross-curricular links, ensuring the children are given a broad and balanced experience. Developing and nurturing the IB learner attributes are also central within this section of the school.
Recent SATS results across KS2 (Years 3-6) at CGB have been impressive. Over the past three years, CGB results have achieved above the national expectation in all three subjects (Science, English and Mathematics)
Students in Year 4 and Year 5 also sit in the ISA tests (International School’s Assessment). These tests are designed in Australia and are based on the OECD’s (Organisation for economic cooperation and development) Programme. These are a series of tests that international schools use to monitor student performance over time, ensuring that school assessments are aligned with international expectations of performance.
The development of leadership skills are also encouraged across the Key Stage, students are given the opportunity to become more involved in the wider school community by taking on roles of responsibility such as student council members, sports captains and prefects.
